A trip report...

Sunday 30th August... Met at 5.30AM at Burger King, unfortunately it wasn't open so had to carry on hungry! The trip down to Dover was fairly uneventful, although i think we all started to get a tad excited upon turning a corner and seeing the white cliffs and the sea... we were actually off to the Nurburgring... were we mad... would we be coming back unscathed 4 days later or on the back of an AA truck, or worse.... We were aiming for the 8.30 ferry but as the traffic was non existent we arrived for the 7.30 ferry and were boarded within 10 minutes. The banter then started over a full english, was Jons gearbox going to hold up, was James going up for a second full english etc etc etc. The journey went fairly quickly and we arrived at Calais about 10.10 local time. Now for the long slog through Europe. Thumbs up if your gay... Frances 130km/h speed limit was awesome and the standard of driving through France and Belgium was exceptionally good. We made good time and passed in to Germany early afternoon. We had decided to take Ben Lovejoys route to the Ring rather than the autobahn, this meant a looong tedious drive through villages at 30km/h. We wont be doing that again! Arrived at the campsite about 4pm. 450 miles showing on the speedo. Beautiful scenery... Jon liked the higher speed limits... car look frigging awesome!!! We then set up tents. Or at least Edd and I did, Jon just kicked his around the campsite shouting profanities at it. So we decided to help. Next was the airbeds. Mine and Edds went up ok and we turned to look at Jon... who was blowing his up outside the tent. We didn't say anything. Next up was possibly the single most funny thing i have ever seen - Jon trying to fit a fully blown up airbed into a small tent opening... we were rolling around on the floor watching this.... Finally all set up and chilling for 5 minutes... Then it was off to the Ring to pop our cherries! The ring car park was HEAVING and full of the usual top quality motors, we had to park in the overflow carpark over the road as there was no space. The ring had been closed for the last hour due to an accident. We later found out that this was a motorcyclist riding a ZX12R, RIP. Everyone was a bit nervous as the rumours of the crash started to fly around. We had already met Nige from Northloop at the campsite who said to pop over and have a chat, which we did, and he did a great job of reassuring us that we would be ok. He did offer pax laps to us both but since we were short of time anyway we decided to go it alone. We went and bought our 4 lap passes for a ridicu...
